** spoiler alert ** Bravo Elizabeth! This was a fascinating book. Fascinating because there were 4-5 plots going on at the same time and it was all tied together. Kenneth, a famous Cricket player, is murdered. Lynley and Havers are called upon to do the investigation. The suspects are, The Ex-wife, Jean, the Son , Jimmie, the Ex- Girlfriend, Gabriella and the “like a mother”- MeriAm. The book goes back and forth between 3rd person and Olivia. Olivia is Meriam’s daughter. She is a troubled girl. Drugs, wild life. She thinks she killed her father by her eratic behavior on the street one night. She has ALS. She lives with Christopher. He takes care of her but is in love with someone else. So, when Olivia goes to her mother after 10 year estranged, to tell her about her illness and to ask for her help, she actually spoils “the perfect murder”. Meriam thinks she is killing Gariella when she really kills Kenneth…by accident. Just so happens, this is the night Olivia goes to visit. She later figures out what happens. The bad thing is, if her mother can’t take care of her, Christopher will have to. But he is in love with someone else. This was an excellent story. Elizabeth gets better and better.
