The Chaperone

LOVED IT - Particularly so because it's set at the same time as Chicago (and I'm currently playing Velma Kelly) and I'd been researching the era myself...only to read this book and find the fashions, philosophies, social conventions and day to day life laid out in this amazing story of one woman, Cora...who for reasons of her own agrees to accompany a young Louise Brooks to NYC while she studies at a prestigious modern dance academy. For me this book had everything I'm interested in and more, but to say anything more would give too much away...so best I can do is say I don't believe anyone should be disappointed after reading this book. It's made me want to go and find out more about Louise Brooks myself and given me a better insight into the times in which my character, Velma Kelly, who was based on a real person, Belva Gaertner lived.
