Martin's review
The Years of Rice and Salt by Kim Stanley Robinson
What a unique mind.
This is a "what if" book that explores a world that could have happened. A world most of us could not imagine, but Robinson can. This gives a look at the Muslim and Buddhist religions that is refreshing and accurate. Not as religions to hate or fear, but a view of the compassionate side that all religions are based on, and how they get twisted by some small groups.
Robinson is more than a SciFi writer. He is Sociopolitical writer of fiction with a hard science twist.
