This is probably the scariest Stephen King I've read in a while. He's much more polished now, but his early work does have an impressive intensity.

Patrick You know, this is one of the few King books that I tried to read that couldn't hold my interest almost from the first. As early works go, I think The Gunslinger is much stronger.

Nick It taps a bit of that anti-establishment paranoia that you see in 'Firestarter' and 'The Stand.' And Carrie's mother is nearly as scary as Randall Flagg, for my money.
