Telegraph Avenue
by Michael Chabon
by Michael Chabon
This is my first Chabon experience, despite many many previous recommendations, especially by male readers. I feel like Michael Chabon is to literary male readers is what Ann Patchett is to literary female readers. Despite knowing little about the particular slice of music history that main characters Archy and Nat devote their lives too, I was easily immersed in the world of Telegraph Avenue, which is a sort of broken, forgotten utopia populated with odd ducks and loyal citizens. It felt a little bit like High Fidelity for smart people, although that doesn't really do the depth of the novel any justice. I particularly enjoyed Gwen's storyline and my heart went out to kooky Julie Jaffe. I will definitely be going back to Chabon's backlist. I'm just sorry it's taken me so long to get to know Mr. Chabon!
