message 1: by Marleen (new)

Marleen I read To the Lighthouse when I was in my early twenties and couldn't make heads nor tails of is. Don't know whether it was the book itself or my limited English (still living in Amsterdam, hadn't even met Dermot yet)at the time but it left me rather frustrated back then. Should probably re-read it one day, just to find out.

Celine I find Woolf herself fascinating, but her work frustrating in the extreme. Her devotion to following every single second of everyone's experience of a moment can be .... wearying? LOL! Like you, I read her stuff very young. Have always meant to return to it, but have yet to summon the mental energy!

Marleen I read Mrs. Dalloway more recently as preparation for reading some other book (The Hours?). It was fascinating but not a pleasurable reading experience.
