I can't believe I stuck with a book that was 628 pages long and all along I knew it was a "2"!
There were a few good points to this book, but mostly not. The fact that the author said he made it all up did not help. I would have liked to have known that he did some research into our ancestors.
I was a little intrigued that their language was so, well, primitive. The characters that he portrays at least had language. They encountered others who not only did not have language but also didn't seem capable of learning language. Which was confusing.
I like that he showed that our ancestors, and therefore we, acted in groups. Lived in groups. Acted cooperatively for the good of the group. Worked together to accomplish things.
But if you're looking for a good book to read, I wouldn't recommend this one.
If you're going to get into this kind of thing, I much preferred Elizabeth Marshall Thomas' book called "The Old Way, a Story of the first people," which is based on REAL people and is not made up.
