Zoe Hoffman, a kind and gentle person, is the chef for a bed and breakfast that she and her cousin Justine run. She has a talent for making food that comforts people, some might even say it’s magical. Her grandmother, who has raised her, is suffering from mini strokes which is causing a form a dementia. Her grandmother is going to need full time care. Zoe decides to take on her grandmother’s full time care. She hirers Alex Nolan (carpenter/builder) to renovate her grandmothers cottage on Dream Lake so she has a safe place for her grandmother and her to live.

Alex Nolan is a talented builder but life circumstances has turned him bitter. He was raised in a home with 2 abusive, alcoholic parents. His wife Darcy has left him to find a richer husband to be a trophy wife for. He somehow picked up a ghost who won’t leave him alone. Yes, he is being followed by a ghost who needs to figure out who he is and why he’s attached himself to Alex. The last thing he wants is to be sucked into a relationship that he knows will fail because he “can’t do relationships”.

This is a very touching story. Alex battles with his demons and Zoe’s battles with life tragedies. Extreme opposites, can they find a way to help each other through this very difficult time. I enjoyed reading Dream Lake, it pulled on your heart strings. Zoe was an incredible strong character even though she was shy and beautiful, she knew who she was and what she needed to do for everyone around her. I did miss that Holly didn’t make an appearance in Dream Lake, she is such a great little dynamo from the 2 previous books in this series. All in all Dream Lake was a great, heart warming read 4 1/2 stars.
