Read in January, 2008
I received this book as a gift and put off reading it for years. It just looked like a romance novel (not this plain blue cover), and I didn't think I really cared about anything in 18th century Scotland. I quickly found out (because I read it so damn fast) that it's a really great piece of historical fiction, with some romance on the side. It's not frilly or all about sex. This story has a lot of grit, and some really disturbing bits (not Irvine Welsh disturbing, but I still wouldn't recommend this to just anyone!). If you like historical fiction in general, you'll probably love this book.
