2.5 stars

I was prepared to write an incredibly scathing review of this book. Coupling prosaic, shallow characters with overuse of language (I'm sorry, "nigrescence"? Really?) made me really hate this book for at least the first half of it. It was a dragging read accentuated by the contempt that the author showed for the genre (and, by extent, the reader). Mark Spitz is unbelievable as (view spoiler) and at only one point in the novel did I empathize with him.

However, I will admit that the last third of the book or so was much more interesting and I bumped my rating up a star. I'll be interested to read the Intuitionist and determine whether it is the authors style I dislike so much or simply this book.
