The Diviners by Rick Moody
There was a lot I liked about this book: the wonderful first chapter, the talk about art and the art of television, the chapter about the eating-addict taxi-ing to a dozen Krispy Kremes, the action hero thinking up the greatest miniseries of all time off the top of his head, and all the stuff about the elderly alcoholic lady whose brain starts picking up mobile phone calls from the ether... There were enough great ideas to keep me reading the book, but I didn't feel satisfied at the end. It would probably work really well as a miniseries, actually...
