I'm the only person on Goodreads who didn't LOVE this collection. I admit, it was lovely. And lyrical. And poetic. I just don't enjoy Dillard like everyone else. Maybe it is because I'm not as inspired by God and nature as she is. Or maybe it is because I feel her writing contains this subtle scorn and is unjustifiably violent. The whole business about the weasel? Weird. I get it. I get that we should be like the weasel. But I don't like it. It just isn't my thing. I like finding meaning in subtle, everyday encounters. I just don't like encounters that involve weasels, Christian kids and/or weather.
