To be completely, 100% honest, I didn't like this book. I thought it was poorly written, naive and not a bit believable. Bruno, the 10 year old main character, is frighteningly naive and the fact that he has no idea at all about the world around him just isn't realistic. Even a 10 year old would have some thoughts on the horrific persecution of Jews in the Holocaust? I read this book when I was exactly Bruno's age and I remember my thoughts on the terrible acts commmitted by the Nazis. The childlike euphemisims John Boyne uses in the book i.e Fuhrer - The Fury and Auschwitz - Out With are almost offensive in the way that a 10 year old surrounded by Nazis would almost definitely know the correct words. The plot wasn't realistic either, not something that I would have expected to have happened in real life. Not altogether impressed with this.
