bookshelves: fantastical

Ladies and gentlemen, the greatest and most shameless ripoff of Lord of the Rings, for your consideration.

This story concerns a race of short people who live in blissful isolation, until a Druid comes to them with a quest to destroy a Dark Lord in the North... with a mystical item called the Sword of Shannara.

I actually read this one back when I was 10 years old, when I bought it out of the library used book bin for 50 cents. I thought it was so great I went on to read the sequels. Then I read LotR the next year... and all of Brook's books went promptly in the library donation bin for another sucker kid.

This is a shameless and pathetic ripoff. Read Tolkien instead!
