really liked it

4.5 stars. It's beautiful, difficult and thought-provoking. I came to love some of the characters, which makes knowing this is non-fiction especially hard to take. Be sure to read the author's note, as it explains how she did her reporting and offers some insight and opinion. I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in contemporary India, with the caveat that this covers only a small segment of the population. India is enormous and diverse and has endless stories to tell, both beautiful and awful.
