Night Boy is a stellar picture book. It is a favorite of my two and a half year old grandson. Mine too. When I first read Night Boy to him, he asked me to ‘read it again’ until, after ten readings in a row, I had to beg off. The story is about Brother Night who chases Day in a simple game that a small child can easily understand. Despite the simplicity of the game, however, Night Boy is a sophisticated picture book that appeals on several levels. Younger readers will love the brightly coloured manga-type illustrations while older readers will be curious about the author’s references to the constellations. The book would make an excellent jumping off point to star-gazing. In Night Boy, Anne Laurel Carter has added another beautiful work to the literary landscape for kids.
