What a wonderful story with an important message of self-acceptance for children! I read Dainty Delaney to my three daughters -- Mairin (8), Libby (6) and Delaney (3; who of course thought the book was about her!).
I highly recommend it. Here is a review by my 8-year old:
“Dainty Delaney and the Carnival Shoes is a really, really good book. I loved the shoes that she got, and I can see why she thought they were so cool. I had two favorite parts. One of my favorite parts was when she was staring at her brother in the kitchen. My second favorite part was when she threw the hammer, the rock, and the paint can over the balcony. It was such an awesome book! Everybody should read it.”
