Great start to a new series from Madeline Hunter. Emma Fairbourne has lost everyone in her family; her brother’s missing and her father has recently passed. The only legacy she has is their auction house, Fairbourne’s. But no one would trust a woman running the auction house so she tries to quickly keep the business afloat from the sidelines. But her father’s business partner, the Earl of Southwaite (Darius), is ready to cut his losses and sell. Emma hopes to have one more auction to preserve the family name and hopefully save someone very dear to her.

I loved how intelligent and stubborn Emma was. She would not back down from Darius and was willing to stand up for herself and her father’s business. Darius was just as arrogant as almost all historical heroes and I loved him for it! Great romantic build up between the two and I’m ready for the new series to continue!
