Cast In Shadow (Elantra Book 1) by Michelle Sagara
This book is actually pretty good, and much better than most of the other Luna novels I have read (some of which described sex as "joining" and seriously, I was embarrassed to be reading it and also fighting the urge to tell my fellow airplane riders all about how incredibly bad it was *cough* Poison Taster *cough*) But this one has lots of races and world building but doesn't try to shove it at you too quickly and I'm still entertained by rash, perpetually tardy, over-powered violent female protagonists with a damaged past. I'm really looking forward to Cast in Courtlight, but it has unfortunately been "in-transit" for the past WEEK. Come on library, hook a girl up.
