Have re-read this book several times. The characters are so engaging and relatable. Shows a great insight into the culture of the Tsurani, and an inspiring story of enemies working together to survive and coming to respect each other.
Even if you haven't read the other Feist books, give this a go and simply think of Tsurani as similar to Japanese and Kingdom soldiers as similar to westerners (not saying they are the same, but makes it easier to relate to for those not familiar with the background story).
Highly recommended.
