I can see why this won an award. There is a certain elegance to this story, and an honesty that is often lacking in the romance genre. This isn't so much a story of falling passionately in love, as one of forgiving past wrongs, and forging new, deeper connections.

Brony and Leo were married for about a year before seeking an annulment. Four years later, Leo tracks Bryony down in India to fetch her home to her (supposedly) dying father. It could be another transparent ploy on the part of Bryony's sister to get them back together, but he doesn't think so.

Between Leo suffering a bought of malaria and the pair getting caught in the middle of a war, Bryony and Leo finally have a moment of actual communication.

I found the ending to be a bit slow. The story faded out while I kept wondering what else there was to do. But mostly, I definitely recommend this.
