I saw Christian Lander speak recently about his book. I was hoping he would talk more about interogating white privilege and whiteness. Instead it was all a big joke - and I mean, yes, parts are very very funny. I was fine, until he made a joke that went a little something like this:

Lander: White people love unpaid internships.

Audience Member: Hi, I'm an unpaid intern and I have a question....[chuckles from the audience:]

Lander:[making a face for laughs and clapping palms together:] yes...go ahead....but wait I just have to say it, you know what they call unpaid interns in the South.....

Audience: [once they understand the joke:] Raucous laughter by a nearly entirely white room
