Didn't like this nearly as much as Lasso the Wind. The writing was clearly not as refined, and the whole thing, true to its subject, was altogether a bit dreary. The Pacific Northwest is full of natural beauty, and man has come in and ruined it. This is the message here, and while it's hardly like Egan is exaggerating, or that people don't need to hear it, it sort of got old. That, and the abundance of history sort of just made this not the book for me. Disappointing, because Egan is such a terrific writer. This book bored me, and I don't think it's because I don't live in Seattle anymore.
