it was amazing
bookshelves: read-epic-fantasy
Read in January, 2009

I should have posted a review on this years ago when I first finished it, because Carey is an amazingly talented world-builder. This book started out a bit slow in all its intricacy, but I stayed in it due to a rec from a friend--and by about 50 pages in I was hooked and stayed hooked through the rest of this series and the other two spin-off series she constructed in this world. Most of my fantasy reading these days is in urban or contemporary, but this epic series was well worth breaking that new habit and returning to my original epic fantasy love. It's amazing--well worth the read (and re-read, which I plan to do soon) for anyone who loves amazingly rich characters, ioriginal plots, and fascinating twists and turns in a storyline.
