Yay! This book was a welcome relief after reading Alice in Wonderland! haha. Although simplistic at times, it's a sweet tale about friendship between a pig and a spider. It also teaches interesting things throughout the book, such as facts about the different animals on the farm. I was actually amazed to learn some different things about...spiders!!! Eek! It also went into a bit of the importance of different animals to the circle of life, but weaved so well into the story that (at least a kid) probably wouldn't realize they were being taught something!
The only character that I wished was developed better was the little girl Fern. I really enjoyed her in the beginning, but then she just kind of fades off. She turns from this very involved part of Wilbur's life to a formless character. I wish she was more of the animals world - such as being able to converse with them. Yet at the same time, I can see why she is slightly removed - it really puts the spotlight on the import...more
