I enjoyed this book and the description of Greece during this time and the historical backdrop which the author paints exceedingly well. The relationships between the families are particularly poignant and it was interesting to see what was valuable to the upper classes v the lower classes. Hislop's depiction of the resistance and the attitude towards the internal war in Greece is particularly well devised and I really enjoyed the love story. Although I really liked the novel, I preferred The Island and The Return, which I would give 5 stars to.
