Boston homicide detective D.D. Warren is approached by a woman who asks her to investigate her murder when she is killed in four days.

In the last two years, on this exact date, her two best friends have been murdered and now she thinks it's her turn to die on January 21st at 8:00 p.m.

Warren's unit is also investigating a number of murders of pedophiles and this is set against the fact that D.D. just became a mother and is basking in the joy of motherhood.

The tension mounts as the deadline draws nearer and the reader wonders who is responsible for the other murders and if this character, Christine Rosalund Carter Grant will have taken sufficient precautions to prevent her murder.

Lisa Gardner is an excellent story teller and adds a number of plot twists that keep the reader guessing and add to the enjoyment of the novel.
