I have been a big fan of Anne Lamott's non-fiction for years (her fiction, not so much). I love Bird By Bird, Operating Instructions and Traveling Mercies. That being said, I was really disappointed in this book. By the end, I was so tired of reading about her insecurities and her attempts to meddle/not meddle in the lives of her son and his girlfriend that I wanted to scream and tell her to get over herself. There are some beautifully written passages about her grandson and the other interesting people in her life, and the accounts of her trips to India and the Baltic countries are fascinating, but if you have never read any of Anne Lamott's books and want to read one, don't pick this one.
