So I guess this is my first real "cyberpunk" book, unless you count PKD, and I thought it was pretty awesome. I suppose it's not that big of a jump from sci-fi, or maybe it's a subgenre of sci-fi, where the concept and the details of the world are often more important than the character development or imagery. In Vurt, the dialogue is stilted and you never even get a good idea of what the characters look like. But somehow, it doesn't matter. What does matter is the trippy worlds-within-worlds and meta-worlds within those, a video game that has become a drug. Thinking back on it, it might have been nice to have some more history of how humanity arrived at this particular point in time, but whatever - it was fun to read.
