it was ok

I don't think McMurtry has done anything really important since Lonesome Dove which was in a category by itself. This book is readable but shallow and written "cute" which McMurtry does when he is not at his best. It is not nearly as good as Turpentine by Spring Warren which is also a personal journey is the old West.
