Interesting book. Not a lot happening although I did enjoy it. Gives a glimpse of some of the inhabitants of a small town in Saskatchewan. Story occurs over a period of 1 or 2 days. We see a highlight of Vicki and Blaine, with their 6 children, a couple who inherited a farm but poor management has forced them to lose all of it except for one quarter. Blaine is working with a road construction crew while his wife struggles to manage at home with their 6 children. Lila is married to Norval, the bank manager in the town. Their daughter is pregnant and engaged to a young man who is forever drunk. Their engagement is on and off. Lila has big ideas about the upcoming wedding, how the church should be renovated etc. Lee is a young man who was adopted by an couple when he was left as a baby in a laundry basket in their house. His parents are now deceased. He comes across a beautiful Arab horse and decides to take a ride. Lynn is the owner of the restaurant in town and her husband, Hank runs the farm. Joni is driving through town and stops for the night. Her Arab horse finds a way to escape the horse trailer and she spends the day looking for him. Williard lives with his sister-in-law, Marian. Williard's older brother died several years previously and Williard is afraid Marian will leave. She however has fallen in love with Williard but because they don't talk except about business, they don't share their feelings. The lives of these people are all interwoven as you would expect in a small prairie town.
