The first book I read of Alan Lightman's was Einstein's Dreams, which I found incredibly thought-provoking and original. "Mr. G" was just as interesting to read and to think about. In his signature style, Lightman uses the character of Mr. G, creator of the Universe, to examine questions about reality as we know it that only a physicist could think of in the first place. This story, like "Einstein's Dreams," is less about the characters and narrative arc and more about ideas, and the merits of philosophical wanderings and exploration. Questions of morality are placed right along questions of the space-time continuum, and are revealed, in the end, to sometimes be one and the same.
