Quite the page-turner. I really liked the book, but I couldn't help but compare it to The Inheritance Trilogy where I cared so deeply for the all of the characters. I found myself not really caring who died one way or the other in the end, but still enjoyed the experience, as uneasy as it was.

I'm curious to see what direction the series takes from here, somewhere more lighthearted I hope, if not I will probably be skipping the next book. I do appreciate the originality and Jemisin's excellent talent for weaving incredible mythology and back story, and will definitely keep an eye out for her future work.

All in all worth a read, but compare it to Inheritance at your own peril.
