** spoiler alert ** To be honest, I was not excited about reading this one. It was not Harry Bosch, it was recent…But, I can’t help say, Connelly is an elite. His books are always complete. What I mean is, the story flows well, climaxes and wraps up into a complete way. No peaks and valleys. No disappointment in the ending. This was about Cassie. She is an ex-con. Her lover, Max, died 6 years ago. She went to jail as an accessory to the crime he was committing. She thought he was pushed out of the window of the casino when he was caught in a set up. You find out in the end, he jumped. The PI that caught him is after Cassie now. She had to do one last job that her friend Leo found for her. She needed the money. So she took it. What she didn’t realize was how much she really got. For a ½ million dollar job that turned out to be $2.5M. The people she stole from hires John Karch, the PI, to find her. He is ruthless. Maybe driven by his past. He stretches the law to meet his needs. I th...more
