I don't know, man. There was a bit of anachronistic offense, I guess, but that wasn't the problem. Maybe it had to do with the science. I mean, the book is essentially fantasy rather than science fiction, so it (first of all) has no business pretending to have any connection to the "march of progress" and its ideas about an enlightened future and human response ring pretty damn false.
