Ok so I saw the movie first. This was one of those movies that after about 20 minutes of watching you want to turn it off b/c you can't think of any redeeming qualities in it but then oddly, you finish and it is great. One of the reasons it is so good is b/c the absolutely black, makes the white more white...you know? The book is the same way excecpt more trashy behavior and more redeeming qualities in the end. I know this review wouldn't make me want to read it, but I loved it. I love learning about the human condition, change for the better and family relationships. There is always something to learn. The book has a disney ending (which a reason enough for me to read a book) but there are really unlikable characters, that do horrible things which yields to a lot of swearing (F word) and explicit behavior in the first two chapters.
