Paul Krugman makes an excellent plea for increased government spending to jump start this economy to address the most important issue of more jobs. He uses economic theory, historical data, and statistical analysis to support his, and other economists', conclusions that government spending is critical at this juncture when interest rates are low and the Fed has few options to jumpstart the economy. He does not ignore the worry of deficits and out-of-control budgets, but demonstrates that the time to address those concerns is when employment is high and the economy is in good condition. Current conditions warrant increased government spending to put people to work in education, repairing infrastructure, building to advance technological improvements, and returning firemen, policemen, and teachers to work. He debunks the tax-slashing conservative right and explains how they have taken over economic and political discourse to our detriment.
