Not sure how I felt about this one. On one hand, its been translated from German, so there is a little stiltedness in the text--not enough to mess with meaning, you can understand everything just fine. But still, the text feels...foreign.

What I liked:

Rosa Alcantara is not a likeable person, but you end up liking her anyway. She's mafia bad with mafia honor.
Although there is a supernatural twist, it doesn't seem to follow the current "supernatural" trend. It's refreshing.
Written in the 3rd person, you see what Rosa does, but you never know exactly what she's thinking. And somehow, even though she seems like a frigid ice queen, the author still gets you rooting for her
Loved the setting development. Felt like I was in Italy.

Potential problem:
Kind of long. Stilted text may turn off a lot of teens.
