Brilliant. A rare book, one which lives up to high expectations. Considering that one knows the basic story before starting it, there is still a high degree of tension. Some critics feels there has been a modern importation of same sex love into the classical realm; I would suggest that we don't really know how these lives unfolded at the time because these stories were not told. To me it was believable the way that Miller presents it. If you are Achilles, a leader of men, a godling and a prince, you can take another man for a partner, and no one is going to question you.
