it was amazing
bookshelves: sf, steampunk, alternate-history
Read from May 01, 2012 to September 28, 2014

Like something pulled out of my dreams (similar in that respect to The Night Circus and The Manual of Detection), this patchwork, Frankenstein's monster of a novel is funny, dark, dreamy, wistful, crass, playful, and profound. It embraces cliches while at the same time deconstructing them and is self-referential in a dizzying way, almost like if Michael Chabon went on the vaudeville circuit. Dexter Palmer the character may be tiresome, but Dexter Palmer the author rocks the block.
