Bleak and beautiful. McCarthy takes the most haunting environment possible, focuses on everything that matters and nothing that doesn't. What we're left with is an intimate portrait of two characters, a father and son, who need no names because they are more than that in a time when they would be meaningless anyhow. Their desperation is so real and understated that I found The Road nearly impossible to put down, which is strange given how hard it was to get through (emotionally, that is). Would highly recommend.
