It was just an ordinary day for Josh and Sophie—until Mr. Dee showed up with his Golems. Two children are drawn into an epic, centuries-long battle for power. But when dealing with immortal beings that have seen countless humans die and are therefore a trifle indifferent to human life, how can you know the good guys from the bad ones? This story just hits the ground running and barely pauses for breath. It’s an action tale liberally spiced with magic and dealing with the kind of social questions neatly dodged by most such books. The story only gets more fraught with tension when Sophie is gifted with power and her brother is not. The dilemma of what Josh will do to gain power introduces dramatic tension into this already powerful tale and leaves the reader yearning for the sequel that is sure to follow.
