I found this book to be engrossing and disturbing. It raises serious questions about human nature and the ways one can behave when faced with actual circumstances that are completely at odds with the way one believes he or she would behave when asked the question hypothetically. In other words, the dissonance between what we would actually do and what we BELIEVE we would do. This book is very thought-provoking and it's a page turner. However, the quality of the story and its believability kind of fizzle as the book progresses. I thought the earlier chapters struck me as having a much greater ring of truth than the later chapters, which were a bit over the top. On the whole, the introspection this book provokes makes it well worth the time it took to read it.
