I've read a number of not so good reviews on this book, and I'm not sure why. I quickly fell in love with many of the characters. Daire, the main character is spunky and interesting. She's got guts, but it also afraid of the situations that she finds herself in, so I found her realistic. Paloma is just awesome and I would love the chance to live with her and learn magic at her side. Finally, I loved Dace from the get go. I don't know if its just the descriptions of him or his interactions with everyone, but I'm a fan.

The overall story had parts where I couldn't put the book down and some that dragged, but that's the case with many books. I enjoyed the Native American spirituality and magic that is a main theme and learning some of the mythology that goes with it. I haven't read many books with that type of magic, so it was a nice change of pace. I would recommend this book overall since I did like it, but I don't know it I'll be running right out for the next book in the series.
