I loved this series! Very unique blend of fantasy, historical fiction, suspense, and romance. Its filled with various subplots including a sweet romance but this love story does not take away from the central conflict. The themes of the novel reflect those of classic novels such as Jane Eyre and wuthering heights. Some people may have been disappointed at the ending. SPOILERS) when gemma's love kartik became the tree of souls I was devastated. I hated libba bray for doing that to my favorite character. After awhile I was glad she did that because sad and shocking endings are much more memorable. This way the story will stay with me forever. :-)
