Thoroughly enjoyable Rash novel. Like most (all?) of his novels, this one is set in the Appalachia Region of North Carolina. Unlike the others, it takes place during the waning days of World War I. Prejudice, Nationalism, Love, and Loyalty all interplay in this beautifully written story of a mute stranger who appears at the farm of a woman popularly believed to be a witch. Imagery is reminescant of John Steinbech, and people and places and writing style will apeal to fans of that author.
