This is the first book in a mystery series featuring Sir Robert Carey, a real life Elizabethan courtier, during his time as Deputy Warden of the West March. There's a dead body, political plotting, humor and great characters. It took me a while to get used to some of the names - "Bessie's Andrew" or "Jock of the Peartree". This was a fun read and I look forward to reading more in the series. The author also writes another Elizabethan series under her real name - Patricia Finney.
