I found this book to be charming. A little dull at times but still charming. Kind of like Caddy Woodlawn (a fantastic book) goes all scientific... Or Laura Ingalls the science kid. I thought it was cute. I kept waiting for tragedy or something to occur...it never did. I loved Calpurnia's relationship with her grandfather and their collection expeditions. I really wanted to go into her grandfather's study. It sounded awesome. Her mother, on the other hand, was a horror story. What was her problem? We never found out why she was so nasty did we? I read it so long ago and now I don't really care.

So, while I found it to be charming, probably all of my children would find it boring. Not a lot of action.

My Rating: Cute and Charming...a bit dull at times.
