I really don't know why I wasted my time on this terrible book. It was something of a page turner but there wasn't triumph over evil so much as there was just evil. Poor Avery Norton had a puritanical, twisted, strict mother who also turned out to be a murderer. Unfortunately, Faye, the mother also was an accomplished liar and when Avery stumbled upon several corpses that her mother had murdered, Faye convinced the authorities that 12 year old Avery was actually the murderer. She said that Avery had blackouts during these murderous episodes and that was why she didn't remember the killings. For the next 6 years, Avery was confined to Taunton mental hospital and subjected to despicable horrors. Faye does finally get what she deserved but there was no triumph. I really don't know why I wasted a day of my life reading this miserable excuse for a book.
