This had a really brave premise, which was bullying, but the writing and the story flow just about made me decide that Susane Colasanti's When It Happens, which is one of my favorite YAs, was a fluke. (And to be completely objective, without the intoxication of giddiness and lovestruck-ness, it wasn't even that outstanding.) Half the time, you couldn't understand why these things were happening and how things got there and so on. The story was all over the place, without context. It was mucho disappointmento, because this is the fourth time I've given Colasanti a chance, and yet again, she blew it.
Yay!
-To be fair, I thought Colasanti was able to portray the image she wanted of Noelle and of bullying.
Boo!s
-HOWEVER, she wasn't able to hold on to it very tightly. Such an irony, given the title of the book.
-Plus, like in her other novels, there were a lot more issues than she could handle to address. There's the parental issue, the bullying issue, the relationship issue (Matt or Julian? Julian? But not enough Julian? WHAT??) and so on.
-Story flow kept on shifting to I-don't-know-anymore-WHERE, and Colasanti is supposed to be a former science teacher, which should go to show that she regards precision, accuracy and step-by-steps highly.
